Colonial Life

January 9, 1647

Today was a very hard day , I had to make soap , wash clothes , teach , and take care of my sick daughter. While I was making soap I almost burnt myself on the large fire. I make soap using lye and animal fat. Soap making is very smelly , messy , and risky because lye could burn skin. Since it is winter I get to wash clothes by the warm fire. My daughter was very sick today she had a high fever. She has also been throwing up , so I have to keep a close eye on her. As I was teaching my two youngest kids some of the alphabet my oldest daughter  needed help on her math , she was completely clueless. After teaching I went on to cook dinner. Then I sewed some new new clothes for my children , my husband , and myself. Some of my chores are seasonal like in the spring I do a lot of cleaning , in the summer I dried fruits and herbs , in fall i shucked corn and smoked meat , then in winter I sew and spin. At the end of the day my sick daughter started to feel better. So I have had a really stressful day.
